Re: Jayhawks vs Chokies
VT has reached their zenith under Beamer. Remember Brown at UNC? Brown made a top 5 team but couldn't quite get over the hump...blamed it on being a fb coach at a bb school. Maybe beamer can do the same...no, wait, their illustrious bb team lost a scoring contest to the Richmond Arachnids the other night...52-49? Jeez, what a sports school. They need to stick to engineering and rotc.

Re: Jayhawks vs Chokies
VT actually has some pretty decent talent on the BB team. The problem is they're all true freshmen. It's going to be painful to watch this season.

Re: Jayhawks vs Chokies
Just picking. Don't follow them and haven't watched them play. Do know they lost alot of talent from last year.
-
Re: Jayhawks vs Chokies
They have 8 freshmen I believe. The biggest losses were at guard last season. Wait til UNC and Duke play them uuugh!
-
Re: Jayhawks vs Chokies
8 freshmen is unheard of. UNC has a (redshirt) freshman, and will sign some top ones for next year. I can't imagine any more difficult task, for any sport in any conference, than to build a strong bb program in the acc. Maybe VT can do it, but gains will come in small incremental steps. Hope folks are patient with them.

Re: Jayhawks vs Chokies
sean glennon really really blows

Re: Jayhawks vs Chokies
i hate to say this but the 2 qb system worked for UF last year also
it can work if its used properly
the problem is that sackneck sucks as a big game coach........hes great when he needs to be during the season to get the team to a big bowl game.....then he craps his pants
if you look at the chokies the past 5 or so years........great except during big games.....both regular season and bowl games
miami in 05 and lsu this year are two that immediately jump out at me
some others are FSU and a just off probation miami in 99......ACC CG in 05......bowl games on 01, 03, 04.......and the peach bowl last year

Re: Jayhawks vs Chokies
I agree, Beamer just has trouble in the big time games. Another thing I've noticed also is that in big games he has much more trouble if VT is favored. Beamer has been much more effective in the bigger games if the Hokies are underdogs.
And sackneck? I've mentioned on here before how tasteless I think it is to make fun of someone who has an awful scar because of a terrible accident which could have taken his life and led to many painful surgeries. Have you ever had someone near you suffer a serious burn and had to witness what they endure? It's surely not a pretty ordeal.

on the first part........i agree 100%.......the problem however is that when you play well enough all year to be a top 10 team......you arent going to be the underdog very often......so at some point you need to learn how to handle the pressure and perform accordingly.......if not......maybe its time to find somebody who can
on the second part......thats your opinion......you are entitled to it
personally i dont know the guy......so it matters none to me what he went through........im sure it was tough for him and his family......but we all go through tough times in life......some of us have endured worse than that

Re: Jayhawks vs Chokies
Heck, looking at VT info a little while ago, they only have a 35% winning percentage lifetime against ranked opponents I believe it was.
